Winter Weekend

So, even though I'm dreaming of spring, this was one of those weekends that I felt so fortunate to live in New England. Check out the scene outside our window first thing Saturday morning. I mean, it just doesn't get much more beautiful than that. I told Todd, it reminded me of the scene in A Christmas Story when Ralphie wakes up on Christmas morning and runs to the window to find the trees covered with snow. Even Nicholas couldn't tear himself away from the window!

We had a great weekend, but busy - are there any other kind these days? We had the kitchen tile done. We are finally rid of the pink tile once and for all. It looks great. And... dare I say it outloud... we are ready for final inspection tomorrow. I am trying to go into it with an open mind, expecting that the jerk will find some silly thing for us to change, but I'm still hoping and praying for a miracle. I told Todd, if we get the CO tomorrow - I'm sleeping in my new bedroom. I don't care if I have to drag the mattress in there myself. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

All is well in Nicholasland. He is eating like a pig again. The other morning, he ate almost 3 full eggwhites and a whole piece of wheat toast. Yesterday morning, he ate almost an entire donut - AFTER he'd already eaten breakfast. He should have that weight back on in no time. This is a picture of Todd doing clean-up after the donut. He decided to "Tim Taylor" the crumbs and go straight for the vacuum! Yup, I live with 2 boys!!!! God help me...

Excuses Excuses

I sat down to blog, and was trying to think of a good title. All I could come up with was a bunch of excuses for why I haven't blogged in so long. All of them are legitimate, but...

First of all, Nicholas has been very sick. To be completely honest, it scared the living crap out of us. He has been so healthy - he's almost 16 months old, and has never really been sick - until now. It started as a cold, but quickly turned to a double ear infection with a high fever. At one point, I got 103.7 on the thermometer. This went on for about a week, but thankfully, he is finally felling better. He wasn't really eating much, and I think he lost a little weight. I'm enjoying watching him eat again - he's got some making up to do. I put him on the scale yesterday, and I'm estimating he lost about 3 pounds.

I have to say, for the past few days, he has been such a happy little guy. I think he's just so relieved to be feeling better. It was a rough week. And, to top it off, we had scheduled to have the floors refinished. So, we spent two days at my parents, and left a little early when my dad got sick, and one night at the Cutlers'. The floors look amazing. They're still a bit stinky, but we're dealing with it. And I'm just thinking... I should have taken a picture to post, but I forgot. I'll put one up next time. It's just so nice to be home.

We did have fun at Grandma and Grandpa's and Nana and Papa's, though. He colored, and played with the dogs, watched the snow, and took lots of naps. He was a very good boy under the circumstances.

Our goal is to have the CO by the end of the week. Say a prayer. I swear, if there's one more setback, I'm going to need to be medicated...

Nicholas's Big Day

Well... today was a major milestone in Nicholas's life. He had his first haircut, and as you can see from this "before" shot, he needed one badly! We just could not tame it any longer. And, of course, he was such a brave little guy! All morning, we wondered how it would go, and agreed that it could've gone either way.

He sat all by himself in the chair and never moved. I think he actua
lly liked it! The hairdresser used the electric clippers, and the vibration almost put him to sleep. We were so proud of him.

He looks like such a little boy now - no more baby. It's a good thing I was in charge of taking pictures, because otherwise I would have been in tears.

After our haircut, we went out to lunch at Red Robin. What a great restaurant to take a little kid - there is so much going on in that place! Between the neon lights, moving airplane hanging from the ceiling, and balloons to play with - there was no way this could fail! We ordered him his own meal off of the kids' menu, and he pretty much ate the whole thing. I swear, this kid can eat as much as I can, and lately, he can't get enough food. He must be going through a growth spurt. Oh well, no matter how hard I wish for him to stop - he just keeps on growing up...

Are we there yet?

What a week. Lots of changes on the house. We are looking to get our final inspection by the end of the week. It looks great, and we are BEYOND ready to be done with this. Seriously... enough already. Here are the latest pictures.

So... we're just about there. Finally. Nicholas is doing well, and staying healthy, thank goodness. Although, I can't imagine how, considering the fact that sleep has become a luxury around here lately. For some reason, out of nowhere, Nicholas has little to no interest in sleep, and is up most of the night. We are completely exhausted. Right now, we're blaming it on teeth, but who knows. All I know is... whatever it is, I hope it doesn't last. And on that note... I'm off to bed.
