I'm Ready For Opening Day!

Is anyone else suffering from Spring fever? Over the past few weeks, we have been outside as much as possible, at least when the temperature gets above 40 degrees. We've been taking walks in the stroller, and checking out the yard. Nicholas seems to love the great outdoors. He can be in the middle of a major meltdown, and as soon as the fresh air hits his face, he calms down. (We'll file that away for warmer weather!) He seems interested in the birds chirping too. How could he not be an animal lover growing up in this house? As you can see, he was fascinated with his Uncle Tim's chameleon last weekend too.

Since my last post, Nicholas has been eating lots of new menu items, like sweet potatoes, bananas, pears, carrots, and oatmeal. This kid has never met a food he didn't devour happily. Yup, he's definitely ours! It's been interesting judging which foods to give him, how much, and how often. Not to mention discovering the surprising effects that solid food has on his diapers. Good Lord! We may have to invest in some industrial strength nose plugs for the chaging table. Yuck.

We are now just short of one month off the back of his head, and there is some progress, but not as much as we'd like. His head is still pretty flat, but we think it's beginning to round out a little. His hair is starting to fill in too, so we think that will help. The huge bald spot in back really draws attention to his flat spot! We're working hard and keeping our fingers crossed. We've been pushing the tummy time too, but that has been torture! This picture was taken after some tummy time - after the screaming stopped of course. He's getting there. Honestly, I think he's going to roll over before he can raise his head up off the floor. He can also pull himself up to a seated position, and stand up with very little help. If he had his way, he'd stand all day. He can bear all of his weight on his legs, and is very strong. Yikes. Apparently Todd walked at eight months, so anything is possible. Better sleep now!

Four Months Old And Lovin' It!

Nicholas officially turned four months old on February 18th. It's so hard to believe that he's the same 5 pound preemie that he was such a short time ago. Time is flying by...

The 4 month chapter in our "What To Expect" book begins by saying that we have entered "the golden age of babyhood." Well... Todd and I would beg to differ! Up to this point, Nicholas has really been an easy baby. For some reason, however, over the past few weeks, let's just say that the little man has found his voice, and likes to use it often! We think he's getting a tooth, and he's been hungrier lately as well - eating about every two and a half hours during the day. He's also been very stubborn about falling asleep at night. Oh well, the honeymoon couldn't last forever! All of that said, we are still thankfully getting our fair share of smiles, giggles, and cooing, especially in the morning. There's no denying it... the kid is cute!

A lot of changes are happening lately too. We went to the doctor the other day, and Nicholas weighs 14lbs. 13 oz and is 24 and 7/8 inches long. Dr. Friedman agrees that he's probably teething, but it could be months before we actually see a tooth. And, because he is sleeping through the night and seems hungrier during the day, we have started eating solid foods! So far, we have tried rice cereal and bananas, and he loves it! He eats off of a spoon like a big guy, and is doing great - no stomach issues to speak of.

Nicholas is finally sleeping in his crib at night. It wasn't easy to give him up, but we finally did it, and there were only a few tears. (Mom's... not Nicholas's.) And, he's now spending the entire day off of the back of his head too. He's got a major flat spot in back that we have to take care of, so he's spending all of his time in either his Bumbo chair, the exersaucer, or on his tummy. It's a little tough, but it should be worth it, though. Let's face it - this kid has absolutely no chance of keeping a head of hair past the age of 20, so he should at least have a nice round head, don't you think?

Is Four Months Old Too Young For A Tooth?

Hello all! Sorry it's been such a long time since our last post, but we've been very busy. You know, with all the things that little guys do: sleeping, pooping, cooing, taking a tubby, oh... and drooling and crying. Which leads me to this: Could Nicholas possibly be getting a tooth already? Good Lord, I have seen less drool on a Basset Hound! Today, he actually soaked the front of his shirt with it. He's also been gnawing on his hands like crazy, and seems more cranky than usual. I will say this - a tooth could make breastfeeding interesting! Who knows... we'll keep you posted.

The sleeping has been going very well. He is sleeping through the night pretty consistently, which has been great, and taking naps in his crib during the day. He is really getting onto a schedule now. The tough part for Todd and I, however, is that we're getting ready to put him into the crib at night. The thought of him all alone in another room is a little tough for us to swallow, but I guess we'll have to suck it up eventually. Just not tonight...

The other news is, and you may have heard me mention it in the video above, Nicholas is officially going bald! About a week ago, his hair started falling out. I think he looks frighteningly like Jack Nicholson myself. But, I'm guessing that by the end of this, he'll look even more like his Daddy. Another Todd? Lord, help us.

A week of firsts!

What a busy week our little guy has had! As you can see here, he had his first real playdate with his cousin Jenna this week. They were so cute together, both in their jeans, and hopefully it was the first of many visits to come.

Another first occurred this week as well. When Debbie came over for the kids' playdate, she brought us this thing called The Miracle Blanket... and is it ever! Is it somewhat like a straight jacket? Yes. Does he love it anyway? YES!!! This thing wraps him up like a little mummy, and honestly, I put him in it and he was asleep in 2 minutes flat. We have been trying to get Nicholas to sleep in his crib, or even the Pack 'N Play for naps, but he'll have no part of it. We think it's because he feels too exposed, too free. So, I put him into the crib all wrapped up yesterday and he slept for 45 minutes in there! When I went in to check on him, he was happily looking up at his Wally the Green Monster mobile. This is definite progress.

And here comes the biggie, the motherload of all firsts. Drumroll please... Last night, Nicholas slept through the night!! Yahooooo!!!!!! I got my first good night's sleep in three months, one week, and 3 days. (But who's counting?) I woke him up at 10:30 last night to feed him, and the next thing I know it's 6:00AM! And, he even went back to sleep for another hour after that! I am so excited and hopeful that it wasn't just a fluke. Keep your fingers crossed!

Oh, and just so you know, this is Kristin writing - I have no idea how to change the "Posted by" label at the bottom of the page. Oh well!
